A Positive Birth Philosophy
Philosophy and techniques
A positive birth is as much as philosophy as it is a set of tools and techniques. It is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world in an atmosphere of calm and joy.
When a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally and emotionally she can experience birthing her baby in an easier, more comfortable and sometimes even in a pain free manner.
Childbirth is a natural, normal and healthy function for women, and when we boil it down to the very basics – instinctively women and babies know what to do.
The very original concept of the course is inspired by the work of Dr.Grantly Dick-Read (1890 – 1959) an English obstetrician. His book ‘Childbirth Without Fear’ returned women to their rightful gift of truly natural childbirth.
The aim of the program is to teach you how to relax into your body and the birthing process. When the mind is free of stress and fear that cause the body to respond with pain, then nature is free to process birth in the same well-designed manner that it does for all our other normal physiological functions.
“Both Chris & I feel so empowered going into this birth, we feel we have found our voice.
I am also so impressed with the relaxation techniques and how helpful they are in helping me sleep. What an amazing experience and tools to have! We found it so much more helpful than standard antenatal classes.”

Why is Relaxation Important?
The body and mind work at their optimum when relaxed and free of tension.
When having your baby using relaxation, hypnobirthing and mindfulness techniques, what you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or starting at a fire. You will be conversant and in good spirits – totally relaxed, but fully in control. You will be aware of your body’s contractions (surges or waves), but will be able to breathe and relax through the sensations. You will experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain. Your body’s natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that cause pain.
When it is time for your baby to be born, you will be fully awake and involved.
